A railroad track is to a train what God’s Word is to human life.

A train doesn’t become free when it leaves the tracks—it becomes useless. Despite its great power it can’t free itself and won’t reach its destination. The tracks weren’t designed to restrict the train; they were designed to guide it safely to where it was meant to go.

The same is true of us.

The psalmist wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). Solomon urged us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart…and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). God’s Word doesn’t merely tell us what is right; it shows us the way to walk. It doesn’t imprison us; it protects us. It doesn’t limit life; it offers abundant life Jesus promised.

Many people see God’s Word as a collection of rules meant to limit life. Quite the opposite is true–Scripture is the path of life. It reveals God’s wisdom, protects us from destruction, and leads us toward the purpose for which we were created.

When we ignore God’s Word, we don’t become more independent—we become more vulnerable. A life divorced from the Light Book is like a train without tracks.–it’s a train wreck waiting to happen.

The reason is deeper than bad decisions. Sin is not merely a list of wrong actions. Sin is the condition of the human heart apart from God. Wrong behavior is simply the evidence of a heart that has wandered from its Creator. That’s why God doesn’t merely call us to change our behavior; He calls us to return to Him. As our hearts are transformed, our lives begin to follow a different course.

Stay in the Word. Let it shape your thoughts, direct your steps, and keep your heart aligned with the One who gave you life.

The tracks don’t keep the train from freedom—they provide the only safe path to its destination. God’s Word does the same for us.
