STAY ON MISSION
2 Timothy 3:1; 4:1–5

We instinctively respond to danger by seeking safety. But when Paul warned Timothy that “perilous times” were coming, he didn’t tell him to hide, retreat, or wait for better days. He told him to stay on mission: “Preach the Word… endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

It is easy to become so focused on what is wrong with the world that we forget what God has called us to do in it. Paul didn’t tell Timothy to spend his life diagnosing the darkness. He told him to carry the light. The Church is not called merely to survive dangerous times; we are called to serve in them.

The world doesn’t merely need the Church to tell it how sick it is. It needs to hear that there is a remedy. Jesus still saves. Jesus still restores. Jesus still transforms lives. The gospel has not lost its power because the times have become perilous.

Dangerous times do not cancel our calling—they clarify it. When darkness increases, carry the light. When truth becomes unpopular, preach the Word. When opposition comes, endure hardship. When people need hope, share the gospel. And when the road becomes difficult, don’t quit before you have finished your race.

Dangerous times are not an excuse to retreat from our assignment. They are the reason we must embrace it with greater urgency. Stay on mission. ©
