NOTHING BURIED ALIVE DIES (Pt. 3)

The Remedy

Hidden wounds need healing. Hidden sin needs forgiveness.

John gives us God’s remedy: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). These words offer more than relief from guilt; they offer the remedy. As long as sin remains buried, guilt continues to speak. It accuses, reminds, and condemns. We may blame the sermon, the friend, the spouse, or the preacher for making us uncomfortable, but often they have only touched what has never been brought into the light.

To confess is simply to “fess up”—to agree with God about our sin instead of hiding it, excusing it, or defending it. The moment we do, God steps in with forgiveness and cleansing. He removes the thorn that has been piercing our conscience all along. The pain of guilt is not silenced because we ignored it, but because God has dealt with its cause.

Regret may remain. The consequences of our actions may still need to be faced. But the accusing finger of guilt is removed because the guilt itself has been dealt with. Forgiveness doesn’t erase our memory, but it does restore our standing before God and free our conscience from condemnation.

God never intended us to carry what Christ died to remove.

Nothing buried alive dies. But what is brought into the light can be forgiven, cleansed, and finally put to rest. –PGR
